Co's security aide testifies to witnessing cash-filled bags at condo

MANILA — A prosecution witness told the Sandiganbayan Third Division on Monday that he witnessed approximately 60 bags moved repeatedly through the luxury condominium of former Ako Bicol Representative Zaldy Co. Major Alvin Nuguid, who served as close-in security for Co, made the statement during ongoing court proceedings examining allegations related to the former lawmaker's financial dealings.

Nuguid testified that colleagues in the security detail had informed him that the bags, referred to locally as "maleta," contained cash. The witness accounts form part of a broader investigation into Co's alleged accumulation of unexplained wealth during his time in office.

The testimony adds to mounting evidence presented by prosecutors seeking to establish impropriety in Co's financial activities. The Sandiganbayan has been hearing multiple witness accounts regarding the movement of funds and valuables connected to the former congressman.

Co has previously faced scrutiny over his assets and lifestyle relative to his declared income. The ongoing trial continues to examine the source and nature of wealth held by the politician during his congressional tenure.
