MANILA—The Commission on Audit (COA) has raised serious concerns about the implementation of P17.27 billion in Department of Health infrastructure projects, citing widespread deficiencies in the rollout of health-care facility construction and upgrade initiatives across the country.
According to the COA's findings, the projects—which aim to enhance medical infrastructure nationwide—have encountered multiple implementation problems. These include significant project delays, facilities that remain idle or underutilized, and infrastructure that has not been deployed for its originally intended purpose.
The audit findings underscore longstanding challenges in the government's execution of large-scale health infrastructure programs. The deficiencies represent a substantial portion of the DOH's capital expenditure and raise questions about resource management and project oversight within the department.
The COA's assessment comes as the government continues efforts to strengthen the country's health-care system. Officials have not yet publicly responded to the audit findings, though the results are expected to inform future decisions regarding project management and budget allocation within the health sector.
