MANILA — The Commission on Audit (COA) has flagged approximately 300 infrastructure projects valued at P17.3 billion for displaying what it describes as 'visible defects,' according to findings released in its 2025 audit report.

The audit agency advised the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to implement corrective measures to address the structural and construction issues identified across the nationwide project portfolio. Among the defective projects, 71 works carrying a combined cost of P4.33 billion were determined to require immediate attention during the audit period.

The COA's assessment underscores persistent quality control challenges in major infrastructure spending. The agency's recommendations point toward the need for enhanced oversight mechanisms and stricter adherence to construction standards during project implementation and completion phases.

The DPWH has yet to issue a formal response to the audit findings. Addressing infrastructure defects typically requires project extensions and additional expenditures, compounding budget pressures in the public works sector.
