Coal India breaches 70 MT milestone in October amid power demand surge

Coal India Limited crossed a historic threshold in October, supplying 70.3 million tonnes of coal as the country's energy requirements continued their upward trajectory. The month-on-month increase of 19 per cent underscores the mining giant's expanding production capacity and the accelerating pace of domestic coal consumption.

Deliveries to India's power generation sector reached an all-time high of 57.1 million tonnes in October, accounting for the bulk of Coal India's record output. The surge reflects growing electricity demand across industrial and residential sectors as economic activity gains momentum following the monsoon season.

The record supplies come at a time when Indian thermal power plants are ramping up coal-fired generation to meet the nation's rising electricity needs. Coal India's expanded output has helped reduce India's dependence on international coal imports, supporting domestic energy security and lowering foreign exchange pressures.

The state miner has consistently expanded its production infrastructure over recent years to meet demand from power utilities, steel mills, and other industrial consumers. The October milestone signals the effectiveness of these capacity-enhancement initiatives and suggests Coal India's ability to sustain higher supply levels in coming months.
