Coast Guard arrests two fishermen for illegal compressor diving in Romblon

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has arrested two fishermen for allegedly conducting illegal fishing using a compressor as an underwater breathing apparatus in waters off Barangay Danao, Cajidiocan, Romblon. The Search and Rescue (SAR) Team of Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Cajidiocan spotted the suspicious motorbanca while conducting patrols and intercepted the vessel as it attempted to return to shore. The operation resulted in the apprehension of the two fishermen and seizure of equipment used in the illegal activity. Compressor fishing, which involves using air pumps to supply oxygen to divers underwater, is prohibited under Philippine fisheries law due to its destructive impact on marine ecosystems and fish stocks. The PCG continues to intensify maritime patrols and enforcement operations to combat illegal fishing activities in the region's waters.
