The Annamayya district Collector on Tuesday dismissed media reports of a jobs protest during Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's speech in Madanapalle, Andhra Pradesh, calling such accounts "meaningless and ridiculous." The official, who organised the event, maintained that apparent disruptions were merely expressions of public enthusiasm rather than any demonstration against government employment policies.
Footage from the event showed youth in the audience raising their voices during the FM's address, which observers had interpreted as a protest against the lack of job opportunities. However, the district administration's Information and Public Relations officer, who faced the crowd during the incident, offered a different explanation for the commotion.
According to the I&PR officer, the outbreak of shouting was triggered by camera operators zooming in on the youngsters in the audience. The sudden focus of media attention reportedly set off the vocal reaction, rather than any coordinated demonstration or grievance-airing.
The explanation underscores the administration's position that the event proceeded smoothly and reflected public engagement rather than discontent. District officials have indicated they are satisfied with how the Finance Minister's address was received in the region.
