Sri Lanka played host to the sixth iteration of the Bay of Bengal Maritime Dialogue this week, convening regional stakeholders to address shared challenges in one of the world's busiest and most strategically important maritime zones.
Held at the Cinnamon Grand Colombo, the dialogue was jointly organized by the Pathfinder Foundation and the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (CHD), a Geneva-based independent organization. The opening session featured Milinda Moragoda, Founder of the Pathfinder Foundation, alongside senior government officials and policy experts from across South and Southeast Asia.
The two-day forum provided a platform for delegates to examine maritime security concerns, trade dynamics, and regional cooperation frameworks affecting the Bay of Bengal region. The dialogue represents an ongoing effort to facilitate constructive dialogue among nations sharing the strategically vital waterway.
The Bay of Bengal, bordered by multiple nations including Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh, and Myanmar, remains central to regional economic activity and geopolitical considerations. Initiatives such as this dialogue aim to strengthen understanding and cooperation on maritime governance and security matters.
