The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) extended its downward trend yesterday, with market analysts attributing the decline to a confluence of external and domestic factors dampening investor sentiment.

The All Share Price Index fell 41.53 points during the session, while the S&P SL20 index dropped 14.92 points. Despite strength in banking and financial counters, these gains proved insufficient to support an overall market advance.

Turnover remained modest at Rs 873 million, reflecting cautious trading conditions across the market. Analysts noted that headwinds from both the broader economic environment and market-specific concerns continued to weigh on investor participation.

The performance underscores the challenges facing Sri Lanka's equity market despite pockets of strength in particular sectors. Market participants remain focused on evolving economic conditions that could influence near-term trading patterns.
