The Colombo Stock Exchange indices declined during midday trading on Wednesday, with the All Share Price Index shedding 0.05 percent to settle at 21,468.94 points, according to exchange data. The benchmark measure fell by 10.13 points from its opening level.
The S&P SL20 index, which tracks the exchange's most actively traded stocks, performed similarly, declining 0.10 percent or 6.25 points to close at 6,034.66. The modest losses reflected cautious investor sentiment across the market.
Banking stocks emerged as the main source of trading activity on the bourse, accounting for the majority of daily turnover. The sector's prominence underscored continued investor interest in financial services despite the broader market pullback.
The marginal declines suggest a relatively stable market environment, with neither significant buying nor selling pressure materializing during the midday session. Traders and investors appear to be adopting a wait-and-see approach as market conditions continue to evolve.
