Authorities have opened inquiries into allegations of rape made against British comedian and actor Russell Brand, according to police statements released Monday. Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy indicated that investigators are actively pursuing the new complaints as part of an expanding investigation into the entertainer's conduct.
The development comes as law enforcement continues to examine allegations spanning multiple years. Police officials have stressed the importance of victims' accounts in building comprehensive cases, noting that recent judicial outcomes in related matters have demonstrated the viability of pursuing such cases through the courts.
Furphy stated that investigators hope recent verdicts will provide "courage" and "confidence" to other potential victims who may consider stepping forward. The police official emphasized the department's commitment to thoroughly investigating all complaints and encouraged individuals with relevant information to engage with authorities.
The investigation remains ongoing. Police have not disclosed specific details regarding the allegations or timeline of the reported incidents. Brand's representatives have not immediately responded to requests for comment regarding the new investigations.
