Congress accuses BJP leaders of downplaying Chinese incursions in Arunachal

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has accused BJP leaders of rationalizing Chinese actions following contradictory statements from Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu regarding military incursions in the northeastern state.

Ramesh pointed out that Khandu's recent comments stood in stark contrast to his earlier dismissal of reports detailing Chinese troop movements in Taksing and other locations across Arunachal Pradesh. The Congress leader characterized the shift in tone as part of a broader pattern of downplaying security concerns at the India-China border.

The controversy emerged following confirmation from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) chief of multiple face-offs between Indian and Chinese forces at several locations throughout Arunachal Pradesh. These confirmed confrontations contradicted earlier official denials about the extent of Chinese military activity in the region.

The opposition party's criticism highlights ongoing tensions between New Delhi and Beijing over border security, with political parties increasingly scrutinizing official government statements about Chinese actions. Congress leaders have suggested that minimizing reports of incursions risks overlooking genuine security threats along the disputed frontier.
