Congress alleges Uttarakhand CM altered power project rules to benefit Adani

Congress leaders on Tuesday levelled accusations that the Uttarakhand Chief Minister's administration had fundamentally altered a power generation project to create an opportunity tailored specifically for Adani group's operations. The party alleged that the government had terminated its own joint venture project—involving UJVN and THDC—only to reshape it into a capacity that would match requirements of an Adani facility in Korba.

According to Congress statements, the government reframed 84 separate tender conditions in what the party characterised as a deliberate restructuring of procurement specifications. Opposition leaders questioned the rationale behind dismantling a project originally designed for public sector undertakings and subsequently reconfiguring it to suit a private corporate entity.

The 1,320 MW project specifications were allegedly reformulated multiple times during the tendering process. Congress representatives have called for transparency regarding the decision-making process and demanded clarification on why the original public sector model was abandoned in favour of the revised framework.

The Uttarakhand government has not yet responded to the allegations. The dispute reflects ongoing tensions between the ruling BJP administration and the Opposition over energy sector project allocations in the state.
