The Congress party has unveiled its candidates for the Maharashtra Legislative Council elections, retaining two sitting members while fielding a new candidate in another key constituency.
Abhijit Wanjari has been renominated for the Graduates' constituency representing the Nagpur Division, seeking to retain his position in the upper house. Jayant Dinkar Asagaonkar, the party's incumbent member, will defend the Teachers' seat for the Pune Division.
In a bid to expand its presence in the Teachers' constituency of the Amravati Division, Congress has named Aditi Pohare as its candidate. The move reflects the party's effort to maintain its footprint across the three distinct electoral segments in the state's Legislative Council.
The Maharashtra Legislative Council elections are held separately for different constituencies, including those reserved for graduates and teachers, allowing these professional groups direct representation in the state legislature. Congress's candidate announcements come as parties prepare for the electoral contest in the coming weeks.
