A Congress councillor was shot dead in Punjab in what authorities believe was a premeditated attack stemming from an old dispute between the parties involved. The victim was pursued on his motorcycle before the attackers opened fire, according to preliminary reports.
Senior Superintendent of Police Bhupinder Singh Sidhu confirmed that investigators have identified the perpetrators and are actively pursuing their arrest. "The two parties had an old dispute. The attackers have been identified and our teams have been formed. We will arrest them as soon as possible," Sidhu said.
Police teams have been mobilised across the district to locate and apprehend the suspects. The incident marks another episode of political violence in the state, where factional disputes within and between parties have periodically led to confrontations.
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities working to determine the exact nature of the dispute that preceded the killing and to establish the sequence of events leading up to the attack.
