The statement came in the wake of the student organisation's successful performance in the Garhwal University student union elections. Venugopal cited the Garhwal results as an indicator of shifting student sentiment away from the ruling party's student wing, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad. The Congress leader expressed optimism that momentum from Garhwal would translate into similar gains at Delhi University, where student union elections hold particular significance as a barometer of youth political preferences in the national capital.
