Congress MP Bimol Akoijam has disputed the circumstances of his dismissal from Jawaharlal Nehru University, asserting that he was subjected to a media trial in connection with sexual harassment allegations leveled against him.
Akoijam contended that the university violated provisions of the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act during the investigation and termination proceedings. He claimed that his dismissal notice was issued without providing him access to the investigation report, a procedural step mandated under institutional guidelines.
The MP further alleged that he was denied the standard 30-day appeal period following the dismissal order, restricting his opportunity to formally challenge the decision through established institutional mechanisms.
The case centers on allegations of sexual harassment that prompted an internal inquiry at the university. Akoijam's assertions regarding procedural lapses now form part of his challenge to the dismissal order, with questions raised over the university's adherence to statutory protections and due process requirements in handling such matters.
