Congress names Rahul Gandhi as INDIA bloc's 2029 election face
Senior Congress leader K.C. Venugopal has declared that Rahul Gandhi will lead the opposition INDIA alliance in the 2029 Lok Sabha elections, dismissing speculation about Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin's party proposing an alternative prime ministerial candidate.

Congress general secretary K.C. Venugopal on Sunday firmly rejected reports suggesting that the Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) had put forward its leader and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay as a prime ministerial candidate for the 2029 parliamentary elections.
"Nobody should create any such confusion. Rahul Gandhi will be the face of the INDIA alliance," Venugopal said while addressing media queries in New Delhi. He underscored that the TVK had made no such demand and stressed the need to avoid misinformation about the alliance's leadership structure.
Venugopal attributed Gandhi's prominence within the opposition bloc to his sustained political campaign on issues affecting students, farmers, and youth across the country. "It is the fight he is leading that is being discussed the most in India today—whether it is for students, farmers, or the youth. Everyone has accepted that," he said, highlighting the Congress leader's resonance with key voter segments.
When directly asked whether Gandhi would lead the INDIA alliance in the 2029 elections, Venugopal responded affirmatively, reaffirming the alliance's commitment to the Congress leader's leadership role in the forthcoming general elections.
