Congress questions GDP figures, cites inflation and joblessness concerns

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge dismissed the government's promotion of recent gross domestic product figures as a public relations exercise disconnected from ground realities facing ordinary Indians. The party's communications chief Jairam Ramesh alleged that 'statistical gymnastics' in the GDP calculations masked fundamental economic vulnerabilities.

Ramesh specifically flagged what he characterized as misleading methodology behind the latest growth figures, asserting that the numbers failed to reflect economic stress experienced by citizens. He pointed to elevated inflation rates and persistent unemployment as more accurate barometers of the economy's actual health.

The Congress critique reflects broader opposition concerns that headline growth metrics do not capture the full picture of India's economic performance.
