Congress raises corruption charges against Karnataka Education Minister

The Congress party levelled fresh corruption allegations against Karnataka Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa on Wednesday, claiming that a person close to the minister visited the Shivamogga Urban Development Authority (SUDA) office and made improper financial demands.

According to the party's statement, SUDA Chairperson H.S. Sundaresh alleged that the individual demanded ₹25 lakh from the authority's commissioner. The Congress said the incident underscored what it characterised as a pattern of financial misconduct linked to the minister's office.

The allegation adds to mounting scrutiny of Bangarappa's tenure as the state's education minister. The Congress has sought immediate intervention by the state's anti-corruption authorities and called for a transparent probe into the matter.

Attempts to reach the Education Minister's office for comment on the allegations were unsuccessful. The SUDA has not issued an official statement regarding the incident as of press time. State authorities have not announced any formal investigation into the matter.
