Congress removes official over controversial post targeting Chief Justice

The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) has taken action against a party functionary responsible for a controversial post on social media targeting the Chief Justice of India, party officials said on Tuesday. The individual has been removed from his official party position in response to the incident.

KPCC President K. Sudhakaran clarified that the Congress party maintains unwavering respect for the independence and impartiality of India's judiciary. "The party has no differences of opinion regarding the impartiality of the courts," Mr. Sudhakaran said, underscoring the organisation's institutional commitment to constitutional values.

The action reflects the Congress's effort to distance itself from remarks perceived as critical of the higher judiciary. Party officials stressed that individual members acting contrary to the party's principles regarding the judiciary would face disciplinary measures.

The incident comes amid broader political discourse surrounding judicial appointments and functioning in India, a topic that has drawn commentary from various political quarters across the country.
