Congress slams government after Delhi student hostel collapse kills one

A residential building in Satya Niketan, a congested area near Delhi University's South Campus, collapsed on Sunday afternoon, triggering immediate rescue operations. The five-storey structure, which housed students in paying guest accommodations, claimed at least one life while rescue teams worked to extract several people from the rubble.

The incident prompted sharp criticism from the Congress party, with senior leader Rahul Gandhi taking to social media to condemn the collapse. In a Hindi-language post, Gandhi described the incident as "extremely heartbreaking and alarming," noting that many Delhi University students were believed to be trapped beneath the debris.

Gandhi demanded swift action from rescue agencies, calling on the National Disaster Response Force and Delhi Fire Service to deploy maximum resources to locate and extract survivors. He stressed the importance of providing immediate medical treatment to the injured and emphasized that protecting student lives must be a government priority.

The Satya Niketan area, located in southwest Delhi, is densely populated with student hostels, paying guest facilities, and eateries catering to the large student population attending nearby university campuses. The congested nature of the locality has raised concerns about building safety standards in areas housing significant numbers of students and migrant workers.
