A senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader has levelled fresh accusations against the Indian National Congress, claiming the opposition party has transformed into a 'sting operation factory' to undermine political rivals.
The BJP functionary alleged that a covert operation was recently conducted targeting former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, designed to disrupt him at a time when he had withdrawn from active electoral campaigning and was resting at his residence.
The charge reflects escalating tensions between the two parties in Karnataka, where electoral competition remains intense. The BJP leader's remarks suggest a pattern of alleged undercover tactics being deployed against opposition figures, though specific details regarding the nature and scope of the alleged operation were not elaborated.
Siddaramaiah, a prominent Congress leader in Karnataka, has previously been at the centre of political controversies. His alleged targeting while in a non-political mode drew particular criticism from the BJP, which characterised the action as an example of increasingly aggressive strategies employed by the Congress.
The accusation adds to mounting tensions between India's two major political formations in the southern state, with both parties frequently trading allegations of misconduct and foul play ahead of electoral contests.
