A senior Securities and Exchange Commission official has testified that constitutional provisions strictly prohibit the vice president from engaging in outside employment or business activities while serving in office.
Lawyer Gerardo Del Rosario, an SEC official, made the statement during examination by prosecution counsel Erwin Matib. Del Rosario emphasized that the constitutional restriction exists specifically to prevent conflicts of interest that could compromise the integrity of the vice president's official duties.
The testimony underscores the legal framework governing the conduct and responsibilities of the country's second-highest elected official. According to Del Rosario, the constitutional bar applies broadly to any form of outside professional practice, secondary employment, or business participation during the vice president's tenure in office.
