Consumer Affairs Authority takes legal action against LAUGFS Gas

The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has initiated court action against LAUGFS Gas PLC, citing the company's failure to ensure uninterrupted gas supply to households and businesses across the country. The case was filed on October 29 before Court No. 5 of the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court.

According to the CAA's allegations, the company breached its obligations to maintain consistent and reliable gas distribution services to its consumer base. The regulatory body's decision to pursue legal remedies reflects growing concerns about service reliability in the liquefied petroleum gas sector.

The case represents one of several enforcement actions taken by consumer protection authorities to hold utility providers accountable for service standards. LAUGFS Gas PLC is one of the primary LPG suppliers in Sri Lanka, serving a substantial portion of the domestic market.

The proceedings come at a time when energy security and reliable supply chains remain critical issues for Sri Lankan households and businesses. The outcome of the case may set important precedents for regulatory oversight of gas distribution companies operating in the island nation.
