The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) conducted a coordinated islandwide enforcement operation targeting two categories of food-related packaging materials, resulting in 104 documented violations according to preliminary district-level reports.
The operation, conducted on September 15, 2026, concentrated on lunch sheets and LDPE/LLDPE plastic bags commonly known as "Sili-Sili" bags used in Sri Lankan households and food service establishments. The violations were identified across 22 districts as part of the CAA's broader market compliance programme.
The raids were conducted under Direction No. 70, which was published in the Extraordinary Gazette and establishes regulatory requirements for these packaging materials. The enforcement action reflects the CAA's ongoing commitment to ensuring that food packaging products comply with national standards and safety regulations.
District offices throughout the country participated in the coordinated enforcement effort, with preliminary findings forwarded to the CAA's central office.
