Coron, Dipolog brace for extreme heat as index hits 43°C

Coron in Palawan and Dipolog in Zamboanga del Norte are expected to experience the nation's highest heat index readings on Thursday, reaching 43 degrees Celsius, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

The dual forecast places both municipalities among the country's hottest zones during the period, with heat indices substantially exceeding normal seasonal temperatures. Heat index values combine actual air temperature with humidity levels to reflect how hot conditions feel to the human body.

Residents in the affected areas have been advised to limit outdoor exposure during peak heating hours and increase fluid intake to mitigate heat-related health risks. The weather bureau continues monitoring atmospheric conditions and may issue updates to its heat index forecasts as conditions evolve.

Heat index warnings remain routine during the Philippines' warm season, though readings exceeding 42 degrees Celsius are classified as extremely dangerous by health authorities. Vulnerable populations, including children, the elderly, and those with chronic health conditions, face heightened risk during such episodes.
