Cotton prices have reached an all-time high in Adilabad district of Telangana, with rates touching ₹9,260 per quintal in recent trading, significantly outperforming the government's minimum support price of ₹8,667 per quintal.
The premium of approximately ₹593 per quintal represents a substantial gain for cotton farmers in the region, who have traditionally relied on MSP as a safety net against price volatility. Adilabad district, one of Telangana's major cotton-producing areas, has emerged as a key beneficiary of the current market dynamics.
Analysts attribute the surge to robust domestic and international demand, combined with supply constraints that have tightened cotton availability in key producing regions. The strong prices come at a critical juncture for farmers, as higher realizations could improve rural incomes and encourage continued cultivation of the cash crop.
The price movement also reflects broader trends in agricultural commodity markets across South Asia, where cotton has witnessed increased interest from both domestic mills and export-oriented buyers. Market participants remain cautious, however, noting that prices could be subject to fluctuations based on monsoon patterns, global supply developments, and shifts in textile sector demand.
