Couple arrested after high-speed chase over marijuana smuggling plot
A couple attempted to evade police custody after being caught with 12 kg of marijuana, allegedly intended to fund an expensive birthday gift. The pair rammed their motorcycle into officers and a police vehicle during the escape bid, leaving a Sub-Inspector injured.

Police arrested a couple on charges of drug smuggling after intercepting them with 12 kilograms of marijuana in their possession. According to initial investigations, the pair had planned to sell the contraband to raise funds for purchasing a high-end smartphone as a birthday present.
When law enforcement personnel moved to apprehend them, the accused resisted arrest and attempted to flee the scene on their motorcycle. In a desperate bid to evade capture, they deliberately rammed their vehicle into police personnel and a police motorcycle, causing injuries to a Sub-Inspector from the Wyra police station.
The injured officer received medical treatment for injuries sustained during the collision. Police subsequently overpowered the couple and secured the marijuana consignment. The case has been registered under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
The arrested individuals are currently in police custody pending further investigation. Authorities are examining whether the couple was part of a larger drug trafficking network or acting independently.
