Couple builds natural pond on sprawling estate, cuts costs dramatically

Two property owners in the United States have completed construction of a natural swimming pond on their 65-acre holding, achieving significant cost savings through hands-on labour and strategic project management. The initiative involved relocating over 100,000 pounds of rock and hand-lining the excavation to create a 110,000-gallon water feature.

Couple builds natural pond on sprawling estate, cuts costs dramatically

Crystal Drinkwalter and Jazmyn Canning undertook an ambitious construction project on their expansive rural property after discovering that professional contractor estimates for a natural swimming pond exceeded their budget parameters substantially. Rather than abandon the plan, the pair decided to execute the project themselves, directing their efforts toward both excavation and installation work.

The construction process proved labour-intensive, requiring the relocation of more than 100,000 pounds of rock across the property. The couple manually lined the pond basin before beginning the water-filling phase, which necessitated eight water truck deliveries to reach the pond's total capacity of 110,000 gallons.

According to the project details, the couple completed their natural pond for approximately $52,000, representing substantial savings compared to the initial contractor quotations. The final cost figure suggests savings of around $148,000 relative to professional estimates, making the do-it-yourself approach economically significant for the property owners.

The project has garnered attention among those interested in alternative water feature construction methods and cost-effective rural property development strategies. The couple has documented their construction process for public viewing through digital media channels.
