A Quezon City court rendered a guilty verdict on Tuesday against two men accused of killing Eduardo 'Ed' Dizon, a radio journalist from Kidapawan, in 2019. The conviction marks a significant development in the case that had drawn attention from press freedom advocates and Dizon's colleagues in the broadcasting industry.

Madonna Dizon, the victim's widow, welcomed the court's decision as a vindication of her husband's memory. 'Justice is served,' she said in a statement expressing gratitude to those who supported the family throughout the legal proceedings.

Dizon had worked at DXND radio station in Kidapawan. His death added to the country's troubling record of violence against journalists, a concern repeatedly highlighted by media rights groups monitoring press freedom in the Philippines.

The widow extended her thanks to friends of her late husband and acknowledged the prayers and support extended by the DXND community during the lengthy judicial process. The conviction represents closure for the family as they seek to move forward following the tragedy.
