PUTRAJAYA — The Court of Appeal has granted a stay of bankruptcy action against former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and his son in connection with a RM1.7 billion tax case, according to a ruling delivered on Wednesday.
The decision temporarily halts enforcement proceedings that would have rendered the pair insolvent should they fail to satisfy the tax authority's claims. The reprieve enables them to proceed with their ongoing legal challenge to the assessment underlying the dispute.
The case centres on tax liabilities assessed by the Inland Revenue Board. The former leader and his son have contested the amount demanded, arguing that the assessment is excessive and improperly calculated.
