Court halts passport impound action against KTR pending show-cause response
A high court has ordered status quo on proceedings to impound the passport of K. Chandrasekhar Rao, known as KTR, in connection with an Anti-Corruption Bureau investigation. The government has issued only a show-cause notice to the former Telangana minister, seeking his response before any action.

A high court in Telangana has imposed a freeze on further proceedings regarding the impoundment of K. Chandrasekhar Rao's passport, directing authorities to maintain the current position while legal proceedings continue.
The Additional Solicitor General of India representing Telangana, B. Narasimha Sharma, informed the bench that the government had issued a show-cause notice to KTR asking why his passport should not be impounded. The notice was issued in connection with an investigation being conducted by the Anti-Corruption Bureau into allegations against the former minister.
The court's order for status quo effectively prevents the authorities from taking any precipitative action on the passport matter while KTR submits his response to the show-cause notice. The bench's decision reflects standard judicial practice of allowing the accused party an opportunity to present their case before drastic measures are undertaken.
KTR, who served as industries minister in the previous Telangana government, has been under scrutiny by the ACB in relation to various matters. The passport impound order, if pursued, would typically restrict an individual's ability to travel internationally and is usually reserved for cases involving flight risk or ongoing investigations.
The matter remains under judicial review, with further proceedings expected as KTR's response to the show-cause notice is considered by the authorities and the court.
