Court issues interim order protecting former minister Tiran Alles from arrest
An interim court order has been issued preventing the arrest of former Minister Tiran Alles in connection with a complaint involving allegedly dishonoured cheques issued by Ceylon Newspapers (Pvt) Ltd.

The interim order was granted on September 30th in relation to cheques allegedly issued by the newspaper company to obtain paper supplies for printing the 'Mawbima' and 'Ceylon Today' publications.
The order effectively provides Alles with temporary protection from arrest while legal proceedings continue in the matter. The interim relief was issued following an application to the court, which determined grounds existed for the protective measure.
Ceylon Newspapers (Pvt) Ltd had reportedly issued the cheques as part of commercial transactions related to newsprint procurement for its two publications. The alleged dishonoring of these cheques formed the basis of the complaint that prompted legal action.
The interim order represents a procedural development in the ongoing case. Courts typically issue such protective orders when applicants can demonstrate potential risk of arrest and argue grounds for judicial intervention pending full hearing of the matter.
The case is expected to proceed through the courts, with the interim order remaining in effect unless modified or rescinded by subsequent court orders.
