MANILA — The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) on Friday dismissed claims of preferential treatment given to detained Senator Jinggoy Estrada, asserting that his medical check-up was authorized by court order.

BJMP spokesperson Jayrex Bustinera made the statement in response to criticism from two political prisoner support groups, clarifying that the examination followed proper legal procedures. "The medical check-up of Sen. Jinggoy Estrada was covered by a court order," Bustinera told reporters.

The clarification came after advocacy groups questioned whether the senator had received privileges not extended to other inmates in BJMP custody. The spokesperson's statement underscores the jail management agency's position that all procedures involving detainees must comply with judicial directives.

Estrada remains under BJMP custody pending resolution of his cases. The incident highlights ongoing scrutiny of how the bureau manages high-profile detainees and ensures compliance with court-authorized medical interventions.
