Court suspends five-year sentence for 'Dubai Sudda' employment fraud operator

Rantetige Nishshanka Priyadarshana, known by the alias 'Dubai Sudda', was sentenced by the Kuliyapitiya Magistrate's Court on charges related to operating an illegal overseas employment scheme. The court imposed a five-year suspended prison term alongside a fine of Rs. 100,000 against the accused.

The case centred on allegations that Priyadarshana facilitated employment placements in Dubai using tourist visas rather than proper work documentation. Such arrangements typically leave migrant workers vulnerable to exploitation and deny them legal protections and recourse.

The verdict, delivered on 13 August, concluded a case filed against the accused following investigations into the illicit employment racket. The suspended sentence means the accused will avoid immediate incarceration provided he meets conditions set by the court.

The case highlights ongoing concerns about illegal overseas employment schemes operating within Sri Lanka, which continue to target citizens seeking work abroad despite warnings from authorities and worker protection organisations.
