Court to hear bid to freeze Rosmah's luxury assets in 1MDB case

KUALA LUMPUR — The High Court has set January 7 to hear a Mareva injunction application filed in connection with the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal, with authorities seeking to freeze luxury assets allegedly purchased through misappropriated funds.

The application targets assets valued at approximately US$346 million and is linked to investigations surrounding the state investment fund, which became the subject of a global investigation into alleged fraud and money laundering that resulted in billions of ringgit in losses.

Mareva injunctions are court orders designed to prevent defendants from disposing of or concealing assets pending trial. The move reflects efforts by authorities to preserve potential proceeds of crime as investigations and legal proceedings continue into the 1MDB matter.

The 1MDB scandal, which emerged in 2015, has resulted in multiple criminal charges against former government officials and businesspeople accused of involvement in the scheme. The case has drawn international attention and prompted cooperation between Malaysian authorities and law enforcement agencies across several countries.

The hearing comes as Malaysia continues efforts to recover billions linked to the scandal and pursue accountability against those accused of involvement in one of the world's largest financial fraud cases.
