CPI(M) charts organisational overhaul amid internal pressures

The CPI(M) will convene an extended State Committee meeting in Kozhikode beginning Sunday to discuss wide-ranging organisational changes aimed at reinforcing party transparency and leadership accountability, according to party officials. The reforms come as the party navigates mounting internal challenges and seeks to revitalise its operational framework at all levels.

Party leaders indicate that the meeting may facilitate a substantial shift in the party's approach to engagement and mobilisation. Rather than concentrating resources on high-profile public events and demonstrations, the reformed strategy would emphasise direct community outreach through residential visits and neighbourhood-level gatherings, intended to strengthen connections between the party apparatus and ordinary members.

Among the anticipated measures, district committee members are expected to assume expanded supervisory responsibilities over local and branch-level committees. This decentralisation of oversight aims to enhance coordination between higher and lower organisational tiers while fostering greater responsiveness to grassroots concerns.

The organisational restructuring reflects broader attempts within the party to address structural weaknesses and restore confidence in its leadership during a period marked by political headwinds across its traditional bases of support in South India.
