CPI(M) claims Krishna Jayanti processions serve RSS political agenda

Senior CPI(M) leader V. Jayarajan has accused the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh of instrumentalising Sree Krishna Jayanti processions as part of its political outreach programme in Kerala. Speaking on the matter, Jayarajan contended that the religious observances have been strategically introduced to deepen the organisation's footprint within families and communities across the state.

The allegation reflects ongoing political tensions in Kerala between left-wing parties and organisations aligned with the Bharatiya Janata Party ecosystem. The CPI(M) has previously raised concerns about what it characterises as the politicisation of religious and cultural events by Hindu nationalist groups.

Jayarajan's comments come amid broader debates in Kerala about the intersection of religious observance and political mobilisation. The state, with its Christian and Muslim populations forming substantial minorities alongside a Hindu majority, has historically witnessed pitched political contests over the character of public celebrations.

The RSS has long maintained that its cultural and religious activities are distinct from political campaigning. The organisation operates various affiliate bodies engaged in social and cultural work across India, with an expanding presence in Kerala in recent years. Officials from the RSS could not be immediately reached for comment on the allegations.
