CPI(M) dismisses reports of internal rifts over Kerala poll losses

The CPI(M) moved swiftly on Monday to counter suggestions of disagreement among its top ranks regarding the Left Democratic Front's poor performance in Kerala's recent assembly elections. General secretary M.V. Govindan claimed that sections of the media had selectively quoted and misrepresented statements made by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to manufacture an appearance of internal conflict within the party's leadership structure.

Govindan attributed the misreporting to what he characterized as a coordinated effort by right-wing media outlets to undermine the party's cohesion at a critical juncture. He asserted that the party's senior leadership remained aligned in its assessment of the electoral setback and the factors that contributed to it.

The clarification comes as the Left movement in Kerala faces mounting pressure following its electoral decline. The party has been conducting internal reviews of its performance, a standard practice after major electoral contests. However, Govindan's statement suggests the CPI(M) is keen to project a unified front as it contemplates its political strategy moving forward.

The party's response highlights growing sensitivity to media narratives at a time when Kerala's political landscape continues to shift, with the Congress-led UDF and the BJP gaining ground at the Left's expense.
