The CPI(M) on Monday issued a formal warning against what it termed undermining of democratic processes in ongoing local body elections across the region. Party officials cited documented irregularities at multiple polling locations and called for corrective measures to ensure free and fair conduct of the electoral process.
The party has formally requested election authorities to permit fresh nomination filings in constituencies where procedural violations have been reported. CPI(M) representatives argued that such irregularities, if left unaddressed, could compromise the legitimacy of elected bodies and damage public confidence in democratic institutions.
Concurrently, the party released its election manifesto, which emphasizes strengthening local governance structures through enhanced financial independence. The document advocates for greater revenue-sharing arrangements between state and local bodies, asserting that adequate fiscal resources are essential for effective municipal administration and service delivery.
CPI(M) leaders contended that empowering local government institutions with substantial budgetary autonomy would enable them to address community-specific developmental needs more efficiently. The party framed financial decentralization as a cornerstone of grassroots democracy, arguing that it would reduce administrative delays and foster greater citizen participation in civic matters.
