CPI(M) slams preventive detention of party leaders in Andhra Pradesh

The CPI(M) has condemned what it termed as 'brazen preventive arrests' of its leaders in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, escalating tensions between the party and the state administration. Party officials alleged that the detentions lacked legal justification and appeared designed to suppress legitimate political dissent.

According to party statements, multiple CPI(M) activists and leaders were taken into custody by local authorities in separate incidents. The party described the action as an assault on democratic freedoms and constitutional rights guaranteed to citizens and political organisations.

The CPI(M) has called for the immediate and unconditional release of all detained personnel, warning that such measures would not deter the party from its political activities and grassroots mobilisation efforts. Party representatives have indicated they may approach higher authorities and courts to challenge the arrests.

The detention comes amid heightened political activity in Andhra Pradesh, with various parties intensifying their organisational campaigns across the state. The CPI(M) has historically maintained a strong presence in certain pockets of the state and regularly organises labour and peasant movements.
