CPI urges end to dispute with CPI(M) over Kerala opposition post

Kerala's Communist Party of India has signalled urgent need to resolve an internal dispute within the Left Democratic Front over the position of Deputy Leader of Opposition, cautioning that continued wrangling threatens the coalition's political standing.

CPI Kerala secretary Binoy Viswam emphasized that the LDF, which faces weakened position after the recent Assembly elections, cannot afford extended conflict between its two main constituent parties over organizational roles. The disagreement centres on allocation of the Deputy LoP post between the CPI and its larger ally CPI(M).

Viswam's intervention underscores growing concern within the Left alliance that public disputes over power-sharing arrangements could further erode the coalition's credibility and organizational cohesion. The CPI has historically advocated for equitable distribution of responsibilities within the LDF structure.

The comments come as the LDF grapples with the fallout from a disappointing performance in recent assembly polls, which delivered a significant mandate to the ruling administration. Political analysts suggest that inter-party disputes at this juncture could complicate the Left's efforts to rebuild and consolidate its support base ahead of future electoral contests.
