The creative economy represents one of the most promising avenues for sustaining Malaysia's economic growth in coming years, with the sector still operating below its full capacity, said a cabinet minister on Tuesday.

The creative industries—spanning digital content, design, entertainment, and related creative services—have demonstrated resilience and growth potential that warrants greater policy focus and investment, according to remarks made during an official briefing in Kuala Lumpur.

Current contributions of 6.8 per cent to GDP underscore the sector's existing importance to the national economy, though analysts suggest the figure could expand significantly with targeted support and infrastructure development.

Government backing for the creative sector aligns with regional economic diversification strategies, as neighbouring countries similarly recognize the potential of creative industries to generate high-value employment and intellectual property exports.

Official statements emphasized the need for coordinated efforts across government agencies, private sector stakeholders, and educational institutions to unlock the sector's growth potential and position Malaysia competitively within the regional creative economy landscape.
