Cricket qualifiers for LA Olympics slated for January-February 2028

Cricket is set to make a historic return to the Olympic Games after more than a century's absence, with the 2028 Los Angeles Games marking the sport's comeback to the world's premier multi-sport event. The qualifying rounds for both the men's and women's competitions have been earmarked for early 2028, as per the International Cricket Council's recently distributed schedule.

The ICC's comprehensive events calendar, unveiled following meetings with member boards in October in Dubai, outlines a busy slate of cricket competitions spanning the period between the 2027 and 2031 ODI World Cups. In total, 12 men's tournaments, seven women's events, and five Under-19 competitions—including qualifiers—are currently scheduled across this four-year window.

Beyond the Olympic qualifiers, the cricket calendar includes the 2029 World Test Championship final, which will be held in England from June 8 to 12. While several marquee tournaments were already finalized by the ICC in 2021, the recent announcement represents a significant step in crystallizing the international cricket schedule, though some details remain to be confirmed.

For the women's Olympic tournament, four teams have already secured their places as the highest-ranked nations from their respective regions: Australia, India, South Africa, and Great Britain. The men's and women's qualifying tournaments will determine the remaining spots in the Olympic competitions.
