MANILA — House of Representatives prosecutor and Bicol party-list Rep. Terry Ridon clarified that criminal charges against Vice President Sara Duterte remain separate from impeachment proceedings being conducted against her in Congress.
Ridon stated on Friday that the arrest warrant issued against Duterte should not be conflated with the impeachment case, emphasizing that the prosecution panel intends to continue advancing both matters independently.
The distinction underscores the dual-track approach being taken against the vice president, with criminal proceedings running parallel to the constitutional impeachment process. The House prosecution panel has signaled its commitment to pressing forward on all fronts in the case.
The clarification comes as multiple legal challenges mount against Duterte, including allegations that have prompted the issuance of arrest warrants and formal impeachment complaints filed in the House of Representatives.
