A major cash discovery has sparked an investigation in Uttar Pradesh after excavation work at a residence in Barapur Ramnagar village, falling under the Nawabganj police station area in Prayagraj, unearthed three drums containing large quantities of currency notes.
The notes, which were carefully wrapped in plastic sheaths, were buried underground in the property's verandah. Initial estimates suggest the recovered cash amounts to several crores of rupees, though a precise count is underway.
Police have taken two brothers into custody and begun questioning them regarding the source and purpose of the concealed funds. The circumstances surrounding how and why the money was buried remain unclear.
Following the discovery, the Prayagraj police have alerted the Income Tax department and other relevant agencies. The multi-agency investigation aims to determine whether the funds represent undisclosed income or proceeds of illegal activity. Further details are expected as the inquiry progresses.
