CRPF takes control of Kuki-Zo insurgent camp in Manipur relocation drive

Central Reserve Police Force personnel have taken over a Kuki-Zo insurgent group camp in Manipur's Sinai valley, according to police officials, in what represents one of two facilities slated for relocation under a Ministry of Home Affairs arrangement.

Authorities reported discovering 17 individuals at the seized camp who were allegedly "impersonating" registered cadres of the Kuki-Zo militant organization. Police characterized the findings as part of a broader security operation to consolidate and relocate opposition group infrastructure within the conflict-affected state.

The Kuki-Zo insurgent group has disputed the official account, asserting that those found in the camp were long-term residents rather than fraudulent members. The organization has called for central government intervention, signaling resistance to the relocation initiative.

A senior official involved in the operation stated that camps operated by underground organizations would no longer enjoy protected status, signaling a more assertive stance by security agencies. The development indicates a potential recalibration of state policy toward militant-affiliated facilities that have operated with tacit tolerance in certain areas.

The relocation scheme involving the Home Ministry represents an ongoing effort to reshape security dynamics in Manipur, where ethnic tensions between Kuki and Meitei communities have persisted for decades.
