Crude Rally Boosts Saudi Equities As Gulf Markets Show Mixed Signals

Saudi Arabian stocks surged on the back of climbing oil prices, with Saudi Aramco gaining ground as Brent crude climbed above $109 per barrel. However, weakness in Qatar and Egypt suggested divergent fortunes across the broader Middle Eastern market.

Saudi Aramco's shares jumped 2.1% as international crude prices strengthened, with Brent crude settling at $109.86 a barrel in recent trading. The oil producer's gains reflected the broader positive sentiment driven by rising energy prices, which typically benefit hydrocarbon-dependent economies in the region.

The rally in Saudi equities stood in sharp contrast to performance elsewhere in the Gulf, where weakness was more pronounced. Qatar's benchmark index declined to its lowest closing level since April 2020, signalling investor caution in the smaller Gulf market. Egypt's stock exchange also experienced declines, suggesting that regional equity markets were responding to different underlying dynamics beyond global oil price movements.

Analysts noted that while oil-exporting nations like Saudi Arabia benefited from higher crude valuations, other regional markets faced headwinds from macroeconomic pressures and local market conditions. The divergence highlighted how energy-dependent economies continued to track commodity prices, even as broader geopolitical and economic factors influenced investor sentiment across the Middle East.
