Regulatory authorities have issued a fresh advisory cautioning the public against an escalating wave of cryptocurrency scams that leverage ATMs, gift cards, and courier services to defraud victims. According to data compiled by law enforcement agencies, the fraudulent schemes have generated over 13,400 complaints related to cryptocurrency kiosks alone, with cumulative losses exceeding $388 million.

The scammers typically direct victims to cryptocurrency ATMs or digital exchanges where funds are converted into digital assets and transferred to criminal wallets. Once the transaction is completed, the money becomes nearly impossible to recover. The use of gift cards and courier services allows fraudsters to maintain anonymity while victims unknowingly facilitate the movement of funds.

Regulatory bodies have emphasized that these payment methods are inherently difficult to reverse, making them attractive to bad actors. Victims often discover the fraud only after money has been irretrievably sent, leaving limited options for recovery. The advisory urges consumers to exercise extreme caution when approached with unsolicited investment opportunities or demands for cryptocurrency payments.

Authorities recommend verifying the legitimacy of any investment platforms before engaging in transactions and consulting official regulatory channels for verification. Consumers are also urged to report suspicious activities to relevant law enforcement agencies and financial regulators to help combat the growing menace.
