The South and Southeast Asia-focused cryptocurrency exchange Rocket has halted operations across its trading platform after suffering a substantial security breach. An attacker manipulated an inactive perpetual futures market through a series of coordinated transactions, ultimately extracting approximately $287,000 from the platform.

The breach involved the use of burner wallets—anonymous accounts created specifically for the attack—to execute trades against the dormant market. By exploiting the lack of active price discovery mechanisms, the attacker was able to artificially inflate position values and subsequently withdraw funds from the exchange.

Rocket's management implemented an immediate suspension of deposits, withdrawals, and all trading activities across the platform in response to the incident. The exchange has not yet provided a detailed timeline for when services will be restored or announced compensation measures for affected users.

The attack highlights vulnerabilities in cryptocurrency exchange infrastructure, particularly regarding safeguards around inactive or low-liquidity trading pairs. Security experts have long warned that perpetual futures markets require robust monitoring mechanisms to prevent manipulation tactics, especially during periods of reduced trading volume.

Rocket has not disclosed whether the attacker's identity has been established or if recovery of the stolen funds is underway. Users of the platform expressed concern over the suspension, with many awaiting official communication regarding the security incident and timeline for service restoration.
